Issues with components like the EGR valve or EVAP system can trip the check engine light, often without obvious performance symptoms. What to watch for: Unfortunately, you might not notice any immediate symptoms. Many emissions-related issues don’t affect the way your car drives, at least at first. The only clue might be the check engine light itself.
